This was the first time I did a make-up for a pregnant mother so I was
feeling a bit different doing her make-up, but in a good way of course
:p It was nice to meet this client, and chatted with her, her sis and my
mother at the same time. She recently tied the knot with her husband,
but yet to celebrate the reception. It was quite touching when she told
that her mother just passed away and would not be able to meet her first
grandchild. It was a bittersweet feeling for her to wear this blue
halter-neck dress which belonged to her late mother.
Besides
gossiping about Malaysian celebrities while doing her make-up (what else
could we come up with common knowledge when you meet for the first time?
:p) , as devout Christians also her sister and her had several important
questions about Islam to satisfy their curiosity especially on
Compulsory Prayers & Fasting. One of the questions was 'Is Friday
prayers compulsory for men?' I explained to her that it is compulsory,
because in al-Qur'an supposedly all daily activities must be postponed
in order to attend the sermon (Khutbah) and to perform the prayes,b but
as long as they do not miss up to 3 times consecutively without valid
reasons, then it is still considered fine. Reasons for them to ask was
because they said a few Muslim men at their office did not show much
concern about attending their Friday prayers. My mother and I just
knowingly grinned by saying that it happens in every religion where you
have devout followers and some could not care less. However it was a
strong reminder for me that as Muslims we must show good example in
performing our religious duties, because it would be observed by
non-Muslims. My mother and I appreciated their thoughtfulness when they
served us with canned drinks and even informed that it's pure (halal)
for us to drink since the drinks are canned. It was indeed shameful to
know that there are non-Muslims who are more interested to understand
our beautiful religion compared to its followers themselves.
